Triple-A Mid-Atlantic says the spare tire in your trunk may be going the way of the rumble seat!   Thanks to the new government fuel efficiency standards – some manufacturers are omitting a spare tire.  Instead your new car might be equipped with tires that if damaged can run a reasonable distance without air – or you might be given something like Fix-A-Flat.  Triple-A says 13% of cars sold in the first part of last year didn’t come with a spare tire and 51% of 2011 models came with temporary spares.  Before you buy – find out if your new car has a spare – or what options come with the vehicle – before you end up stranded on the side of the road.
