Buying Car Parts: A Look at Floor Mats
Introduction to Car Parts and Floor Mats
Automobile floor mats are one of the most important protective items in your car. While it’s easy to replace a worn may, replacing worn carpet is a real pain, and can be quite expensive. Protect your flooring and you won’t have to go through the pain of replacing floors and carpeting in your car or truck.
Weather and Your Car
Winter weather is especially harsh on floors. You track in plenty of dirt with snow and slush on your shoes or boots, and this builds up over the season. The grit breaks down the fibers as you step on it, and repeating this only destroys the nap and look, eventually wearing your carpet down to the backing. Chemicals from the salts on the road are also harmful to your carpets, and the larger chunks of debris help break down the fibers even faster.
In moist areas, water is often a problem for carpets and gets trapped between the fibers. This condition is ripe for growing molds, and many people are highly allergic to molds. Even those who aren’t allergic still react to the odors of mold and mildew, and it’s an embarrassment that can be partly prevented by regular cleaning and floor mats designed to direct water away from the carpet.
Making Your Floor Mat Fit
Because each car’s floor has a slightly different layout and topography, your floor mat should be made to fit. These are usually stocked at auto parts stores, and you would ask for your floor mats by make, model, and year. You can also order them on the internet and may actually find better prices there. Your mats will also come in different colors to match the different interior colors the manufacturer produces, and you can also get other brands of floor mats as well that may have specific design features you need, such as all-weather mats.
Protecting Your Carpet
Don’t let your carpet be destroyed by something you can easily prevent. Having a new carpet installed in a car is much more expensive and time consuming than purchasing mats and placing them in to fit. Weather and dirt are the time-tested enemies of your car’s floor, so don’t let them meet.
