Auto Parts:  Finding ... Radar Detectors

If you are one of the many who like to exceed the speed limit, you may need a radar detector to keep you out of trouble. Choosing the right one isn’t too difficult with a little guidance. The quality, type, and mounting method all should play a part in our choice since it will play a part in the performance of the device.

Your Options:  Auto Parts and Radar Detectors

Remote mounted radar detectors are devices that are permanently mounted to your vehicle. The advantage of those is that they are difficult to steal since they are difficult to see. Cordless radar detectors are also difficult to steal, since you can remove them and take them with you when you leave your car. However, the corded detectors that mount to your windshield provide the best level of radar detection for you.

If you buy a laser detector, remember to shop for a 360 degree radar detector. It will be equipped with two lasers. While they are generally more expensive, the two laser radar detectors will give you a full range of capability instead of just front detection.

For the best safety with your radar detector, buy one that offers voice alerts. If you have to look away from the road to look at the detector constantly, you are putting yourself and your passengers at risk. The voice alert will tell you what you need to know without you looking away from the road.

The Law, Auto Parts and Radar Detectors

The police departments have gotten wise to radar detectors, however, and now have Spectre radar detection detectors for their own use. There are some radar detectors that will alert you to the presence of such a system, then will shut itself off. Some of the more expensive models will actually shield themselves from the detection technology and are capable of continuing to operate without being picked up one the Spectre equipped radar.

Although the radar detector can help keep you from getting pulled over for speeding and help prevent excessive fines and possibly worse, it can’t keep you from getting into dangers situations and high speed accidents. One way to stay off a cop’s radar is to slow down, but it’s also a way to stay out of the hospital or worse.
