    News from Fox 59:

An Indianapolis man contacted FOX59 after he heard about a rash of tire and rim thefts in Indianapolis. He is also a victim who is out $ 500.

“First thing I saw was my car with no wheels and on cinder blocks,” said Mike Sholty, the victim of the thefts who is now driving a rental car.

Someone stole his tires and rim overnight right outside his Indianapolis apartment on the northwest side in a well lit area. A police report filed reveals the rain prevented an officer from dusting for fingerprints.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department also revealed Sholty was not the only victim.

  3. Saab back in hot seat after China deal terminated

Struggling car maker Saab Automobile faced renewed uncertainty Thursday as the financing deal with China’s Hawtai Motor Group fell apart, raising fresh concerns about the company’s future.

Spyker Cars NV, which bought Saab from General Motors Corp. in 2010, said it was “forced to terminate” the $ 223 million (euro150 million) agreement with Hawtai since the Chinese company was not able to obtain all the necessary consents, including approvals from different shareholders.

The money from Hawtai was crucial to Spyker’s plans to rescue cash-strapped Saab, which was forced to stop production at its plant in Trollhattan, Sweden, on April 6.

The exact reasons for the termination of the contract weren’t clear, but analysts suggested it could be due to regulatory issues with Chinese authorities or China’s BAIC, which has previously acquired the rights to some Saab technology.

However, Spyker said BAIC “does not have any problems” with its discussions with other Chinese partners.”

  4. GM trims spending after production disrupted

Posted on March 21st, 2011 by admin

    div class=”txt timestamp” content=”2011-03-20T17:22:53″>updated 3/20/2011 1:22:53 PM ET 2011-03-20T17:22:53

GM is cutting unnecessary spending companywide as it assesses the impact of production disruptions from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

A company spokesman said the move will help the automaker preserve cash as it deals with the financial implications from shortages of parts made in Japan. The cost-cutting effort, which includes travel, took effect last week and will be in place for an undetermined period.

The news follows General Motors Corp.’s announcement Friday that two of three shifts will be canceled at a plant in Eisenach, Germany on Monday and Tuesday. Another plant in Zaragoza, Spain will remain closed Monday. The plants produce the Corsa compact car.

In the U.S., GM said Thursday it will halt production at its pickup plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, next week.

  5. Toyota outlines new vision after recall fiasco

Posted on March 10th, 2011 by admin

p class=”i1″> Toyota Motor Corp. is aiming for an auto industry first by reaching annual sales of 10 million vehicles by 2015 even as it acknowledges that overly rapid growth was at the root of its recall fiasco.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda gave the 10 million figure Wednesday while outlining the company’s “global vision” in his first major strategy announcement since the recall crisis that hit a year and a half ago.

The Japanese automaker reported worldwide sales of 8.42 million vehicles last year — 30,000 more than General Motors Co.’s 8.39 million. Toyota dethroned GM as the world’s No. 1 automaker by vehicle sales in 2008 — a position GM held for 76 years.

Speaking at a Tokyo hotel, Toyoda said the car maker wants to make millions of customers happy, and even denied he was giving a numerical sales target. He repeatedly emphasized goals like quality controls, customer satisfaction and solid profits.

Toyota, which makes the Prius hybrid and Lexus luxury models, hopes to achieve an annual operating profit of 1 trillion yen ($ 12 billion) “as soon as possible,” even if the yen remains strong and vehicle sales drop by 20 percent, Toyoda said.

The company is forecasting operating profit of 550 billion yen ($ 6.6 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31.

Toyoda said the vision was based on what the car maker had learned from its quality problems and the sales hammering from the global financial cri …MSNBC
