Charges solve multiple auto parts store thefts, police say
    News from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Two men suspected of binding employees while robbing a series of Milwaukee auto parts stores have been charged with multiple counts of false imprisonment and armed robbery with use of force. Police said more charges could follow.

Milwaukee police were able to follow Robert Earl Nash, 32, and Jason L. Wilson, 29, on Feb. 14 from a house near Washington Park on the city’s west side to an auto-parts store on W. Capitol Drive, where the men committed their last armed robbery, according to a criminal complaint released Tuesday. Both men were on probation for other crimes at the time, police said.

Police had suspected Wilson was responsible for auto parts robberies going back to September of last year and had arrested him, but didn’t have enough evidence to convict him at the time, Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said in an email.

But police noticed similar modes of operation and description of suspects, and an anonymous tip…………… continues on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

eBay Acquires WHI Solutions to Boost Auto Parts Catalog
    News from Auctionbytes:

eBay is acquiring WHI Solutions (WHI), a provider of software and digital catalog solutions for auto parts distributors and retailers. eBay had previously entered into an agreement with WHI Solutions that allowed it access to millions of parts through Nexpart, WHI’s ecommerce solution.

WHI Solutions offers an e-catalog for electronic parts and service dealer data for over 39,000 North American vehicles. eBay said it would gain expanded selection and access to enhanced structured data “to improve parts selection and value for customers while enabling parts retailers, distributors, dealers, and manufacturers to reach more customers.”

eBay has been rolling out catalog in certain categories in an attempt to improve search results, which are hampered by its traditionally unstructured data, and in 2010, eBay Motors rolled out a Parts Compatibility feature called “Fitment.” Using the feature, sellers create one listing describing a single part that automatically adds a complete list of compatible vehicle…………… continues on Auctionbytes

NASCAR confiscates part of Jimmie Johnson’s Daytona 500 car | Auto racing
    News from The Seattle Times:

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Five-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus are back in the spotlight at one of racing’s biggest stages — and not for the right reason.

NASCAR officials said they confiscated part of Johnson’s Daytona 500 car Friday because of illegal modifications, a rocky start to Speedweeks for a team trying to bounce back from its worst season.

Sprint Cup Series officials determined the No. 48 Chevrolet had illegally modified C-posts, an area of sheet metal between the roof and the side windows. Knaus and the team might face penalties.

Officials cut off the C-posts and planned to ship them to NASCAR’s research-and-development center in Concord, N.C., for further testing. In the meantime, the parts in question were put on display for other teams to examine, a routine procedure for the sanctioning body.

NASCAR allowed the Hendrick Motorsports team to fix that area of the car before practice begins for the Feb. 26 Daytona 500. Qualifying is set for Sunday.

Gunmen rob East St. Louis car parts store
    News from Belleville News Democrat:

EAST ST. LOUIS — Two gunmen robbed an O’Reilly Auto Parts store at gunpoint shortly after 6 p.m. Monday and they ran away with a small amount of money.

No one was injured, Police Chief Michael Floore said.

Police were dispatched at 6:07 p.m. to the business, which is at 2614 State St.

Floore said an employee told officers that “one suspect was carrying a chrome .38-caliber revolver and the second man stood at the door to the store. He had a handgun and a scarf on his face.”

The gunman closest to the employee pointed his gun at the employee and demanded money. The employee gave him the $ 50 or $ 60 in the store cash register.

It was not immediately known whether there were any customers in the store at the time of the armed robbery.

Detectives will go at the store Tuesday to pull surveillance tape in hopes of identifying the suspects, Floore said.

Chicago Auto Show: 2nd life for Ford Fusion, Hyundai Accent
    News from Firstpost:

The visual impact of two cars in the Chicago Auto Show blows the mind away. One is the Ford Fusion and the other is the Hyundai Accent. There are a lot of stunning cars at the auto show but we will focus on those that have a chance of coming to India. Even if the cars themselves are not launched, India will surely see design cues from the US permeating new vehicle in the country.

A walk around the gigantic McCormick Place where the auto show is hosted needs more than a day if you want to do justice to each and every car. The sheer number of cars can overwhelm the human mind.

    Ford

Love at first sight for me was the Ford Fusion. The Fusion seems to be in motion when standing still. The best part of the car is the front grille, taken straight out of the Aston Martin. In case you don’t know, the Aston Martin is James Bond’s car with a licence to thrill. The back of the Fusion too is visually pleasing with the design lines merging perfectly to the tail lights. Additionally the profile of the car has to look of a sports coupe, which is the ne…………… continues on Firstpost

Chemicals, auto parts, coal among state’s top exports – Charleston Gazette
News from Chemicals, auto parts, coal among state’s top exports – Charleston Gazette:

CHARLESTON,W.Va. — You probably know coal is West Virginia’s number one export, accounting for more sales than all other products combined.

And you might know Canada is the state’s top trading partner. Year after year, more West Virginia products go to our northern neighbor than any other country.

But did you know exports of transportation equipment more than doubled in the first nine months of 2011 (full-year figures aren’t available yet), or that coal exports are up 90 percent?

Did you know exports to Brazil doubled last year, making it the state’s number two partner, or that 2010′s number two, Japan, has fallen to eighth place despite a 13 percent increase?

Clearly exporting is a growth industry. And though he’d like to take credit for the boom, the head of the state’s export office says he has little to do with it.

Chicago Auto Show: Muscle cars still have the power
    News from Chicago Tribune:

There was plenty of chatter over the new electric and hybrid offerings at Friday’s opening of the Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place. But off in the wings, the throaty roars of unapologetically powerful V-8 engines more than drowned out the buzz.

Throwbacks in the age of high-tech, fuel-efficient engineering, a new wave of muscle cars from the Detroit Three is proving that for many attendees, miles per hour is still a lot sexier than miles per gallon.

The Ford display prominently featured new gas-electric and plug-in hybrid versions of its 2013 Fusion, but it was the 650-horsepower, 200 mph 2013 Shelby GT500 that turned more heads. A noisy, floor-rattling demonstration probably didn’t hurt.

Engine options fire up Chicago show
    News from nwitimes.com:

Performance is a hot button for many consumers at this year’s Chicago Auto Show.

Today’s technology has altered buyers’ thinking on performance offerings that exist in virtually every market segment.

Hot performance vehicles offered in the compact segment have turbocharged four–cylinder engines priced under $ 20,000. A number of the 2012 vehicles on the show floor year are strong head–turners with outstanding performance worthy of consumer consideration.

One notable car in the Hyundai display is the cool looking and functional 2012 Hyundai Veloster.

Introduced as a 2012 model, enthusiasts voiced concerns about its “all show and no go” performance capabilities. All those performance issues have been corrected in the 2013 model with the addition of a new 1.6-liter turbocharged direct injection engine delivering 201 horsepower bringing true justice to its dual exhaust placement.

Scion has also ramped up its performance reputation with the 2013 Scion FR–S, a compact coupe on sale this spring. FR–S stands for “front engine, r…………… continues on nwitimes.com
