Hyundai Veloster: Looks fast, goes slow
Posted on October 21st, 2011 by admin
p>Price: $ 17,300
Engine: 1.6-liter 4-cylinder
Mileage: 28 City, 40 Hwy
This car is called the Veloster — as in “velocity.” With its coupe-like look and blacked-out window pillars, it’s designed to resemble a motorcycle helmet.
You might notice that it also resembles a doorstop. Actually, that’s appropriate because, while this car has its good points, speed is not among them.
The Veloster, ironically, feels like one of the most underpowered cars I’ve driven in years. Not as in “Gee, it would be nice if this car had a little more guts,” but as in, “Is something wrong?”
There is more to a car, of course, than raw performance so click through for an overview of everything the Veloster does have to offer. Just keep in mind that, despite its looks and its name, adrenaline surges are missing from the menu.

DETROIT — Long ignored by most American auto buyers, and slighted by others due to quality problems, Hyundai is now tops when it comes to corporate loyalty, according to a new study.
But Ford Motor Co. is also making gains in the marketplace, according to the report by Experian Automotive, a data service that tracks vehicle registration data as well as consumer attitudes. The Detroit maker captured the lead in six of the spots in the top 10 product segments.

The new Hyundai Elantra costs less and performs better than the best-selling model in the compact segment, the Honda Civic.msnbc.com contributor msnbc.com contributorGiven its reputation for quality and dependability, the Toyota Corolla has long been a darling of compact-car buyers in the U.S.
In fact, Toyota customer loyalty has become so blinkered lately that those buyers are willfully ignoring poor reviews and even a shattering series of recalls and are continuing to buy Corollas based on their experience with Toyota vehicles that were built in the past.

Hyundai won’t buy your car back anymore

span class=”captionname”>Buy a new Hyundai, like this Sonata coming off the assembly line, and you won’t get to give it back if you lose your job.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — No more Mr. Nice Guy. After Wednesday, if you buy a new Hyundai then lose your job within a year, you’re just going to have to keep the car.
Hyundai is ending its car buy-back program, instituted at the beginning of 2009, under which the South Korea-based automaker offered to buy back the car from any Hyundai owner who suffered involuntary loss of employment within one year of purchasing it.
Under the program, Hyundai paid the difference between the car’s trade-in value at the time the owner filed to return the car and any remaining balance on the auto loan up to a maximum of $ 7,500.
During the life of the program, 350 people took advantage of the buy-back offer, Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor said.
The program just wasn’t piquing consumers’ interest the way it once did. Few customers cited it as a reason for visiting a Hyundai dealership, Trainor said.
When the program was instituted, the economy was in recession and auto sales were at the lowest levels in decade …CNN
