Charges solve multiple auto parts store thefts, police say
    News from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Two men suspected of binding employees while robbing a series of Milwaukee auto parts stores have been charged with multiple counts of false imprisonment and armed robbery with use of force. Police said more charges could follow.

Milwaukee police were able to follow Robert Earl Nash, 32, and Jason L. Wilson, 29, on Feb. 14 from a house near Washington Park on the city’s west side to an auto-parts store on W. Capitol Drive, where the men committed their last armed robbery, according to a criminal complaint released Tuesday. Both men were on probation for other crimes at the time, police said.

Police had suspected Wilson was responsible for auto parts robberies going back to September of last year and had arrested him, but didn’t have enough evidence to convict him at the time, Milwaukee police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz said in an email.

But police noticed similar modes of operation and description of suspects, and an anonymous tip…………… continues on Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

eBay Acquires WHI Solutions to Boost Auto Parts Catalog
    News from Auctionbytes:

eBay is acquiring WHI Solutions (WHI), a provider of software and digital catalog solutions for auto parts distributors and retailers. eBay had previously entered into an agreement with WHI Solutions that allowed it access to millions of parts through Nexpart, WHI’s ecommerce solution.

WHI Solutions offers an e-catalog for electronic parts and service dealer data for over 39,000 North American vehicles. eBay said it would gain expanded selection and access to enhanced structured data “to improve parts selection and value for customers while enabling parts retailers, distributors, dealers, and manufacturers to reach more customers.”

eBay has been rolling out catalog in certain categories in an attempt to improve search results, which are hampered by its traditionally unstructured data, and in 2010, eBay Motors rolled out a Parts Compatibility feature called “Fitment.” Using the feature, sellers create one listing describing a single part that automatically adds a complete list of compatible vehicle…………… continues on Auctionbytes

Gunman robs auto parts store in Santa Cruz
News from San Jose Mercury News:

SANTA CRUZ – A masked man with a handgun robbed cash from a safe at Auto Zone on Water Street Thursday night, Santa Cruz police reported.

Deputy Police Chief Steve Clark said detectives followed leads on Friday but had not apprehended any suspects in the case.

Just after 8 p.m. Thursday, a “husky” man wearing dark clothes, black gloves, a backpack and what appeared to be a beanie on his head walked in the store at 1114 Water St., Clark said.

Standing about 25 feet from a 22-year-old clerk, the man put his head down and asked for an auto part. He then approached the clerk, pulled a black ski mask over his face and demanded money.

Clark said the suspect showed a semiautomatic handgun in his waistband and corralled the clerk and another 20-year-old employee, both of Watsonville, to the back of the store where there was a safe. The clerk was frightened, Clark said.

The suspect took cash from the safe, police said. He ran on Water Street toward Soquel Avenue. No one was injured in the robbery.

O’Reailly Auto Parts Coming to Northfield
    News from Patch.com:

Northfield will soon have another auto parts store.

O’Reilly Auto Parts, a national chain of auto parts stores, plans to buy the property and building that formerly housed the Northfield Athletic Club at 1000 Highway 3 S., which is next to Culver’s.

Kyle Snesrud, who owns the building, told Northfield Patch that he has a contract to sell it to O’Reilly and hopes to close the deal Jan. 16.

An O’Reilly representative confirmed the deal Friday, but was unable to comment further, including when the store might open.

Snesrud said he was told that O’Reilly will renovate the building instead of demolishing it and starting fresh.

“These guys are very systematic and organized in what they do and how they do it,” Snesrud said. “I’m sure they are going to be very formidable competition in the market.”
