Vettel targeting first Formula One win of the season after taking Bahrain pole
News from AutoWeek:By: Adam Cooper on April 21, 2012
LAT PHOTOGRAPHIC – Vettel won the pole at Bahrain Saturday, and is primed to win his first race of the 2012 season.
Sebastian Vettel is on target for his first win of 2012 after taking his first pole of the Formula One season in Bahrain.
Vettel has however used two sets of prime tires when other leading contenders have used one, and that may be something of a compromise at race time, when every lap on fresh rubber will count.
“I felt much happier with the car all weekend, I went out and I think we’ve always had the ability to go reasonably quick. Surely it depends a little bit when and where you are, which tires etc., but I had a good feeling all throughout the weekend, and I’m very happy.

Maker of 200-mpg car turns sights to trucks
News from Zanesville Times Recorder:A Conesville-area resident has developed technology he thinks can save companies money, which in turn will benefit consumers and job seekers. Heinz-Gustav Reisser recently demonstrated the running ability of a 16,000-pound 10-wheel road tractor with its engine converted to new mechanics.
“We have cars, small engines, like 3.8 engines, that we’ve already retrofitted, and right now, this is one of the biggest ones we’ve done,” Reisser said.
Reisser is the chief executive officer of Niama-Reisser LLC, a company working on developing new technology for internal combustion engines. Its directive is to reduce dependence on foreign oil and improve air quality by reducing air pollution and, in general, help other people, Reisser said.
“Most of it is done in Coshocton County,” he said.
By the end of March, the company will have added about 40 employees, for a total of about 50, in Coshocton County and abroad, he said.
The novelty of the company’s latest development is that it can handle 1,800 pounds of torque, or turning power, and deliver 450 units…………… continues on Zanesville Times Recorder
Honda to invest $ 98M in Ohio engine plant
News from Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:Honda said it will invest $ 98 million at its largest auto engine plant for the western Ohio facility to produce components for its new transmission technology.
The engine plant in Anna will make high-tech pulley components for Honda’s new continuously variable transmission, or CVT, aimed at improving fuel efficiency. Honda announced $ 120 million in investments last year for the production of the CVT at the plant in nearby Russells Point.
Honda said the two combined investments for building next-generation powertrain technologies will create 150 new jobs.
“The production of this new CVT technology puts the Buckeye State right in the middle of Honda’s global strategy,” Hide Iwata, president and CEO of Honda of America Manufacturing Inc., said in a statement on Wednesday.
The Russells Point plant is expected to start making the CVT this summer, with pulley components from Japanese operations. The Anna plant will begin manufacturing those parts next year.
The CVT technology is part of Honda’s “Earth Dreams” powertrain technology,…………… continues on Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

GM sales jump on demand for trucks, SUVs
Posted on October 3rd, 2011 by admin
p>By Roland Jones
Strong demand for full-size pickups and SUVs drove up General Motors’ U.S. sales last month, the automaker said Monday.
GM reported total sales of 207,145 vehicles in September — a 20 percent increase over the same month a year ago. Truck sales, which include full-size pickups and SUVs, jumped 34 percent, while sales of passenger cars rose 12 percent over September 2010.
“For GM, all of the factors that say this is a good time to buy a new vehicle outweigh the bad news that appears to be slowing down the broader economic recovery,” said Don Johnson, vice president for U.S. sales.
Other major automakers reported their September sales Monday. Ford said its U.S. sales rose 9 percent, with sales of the Ford Explorer SUV up more than threefold and sales of the Escape small SUV up 41 percent. Ford’s pickup sales rose 15 percent.
Sales of trucks and SUVs tend to pick up in the fall as automakers offer sales promotions. Industrywide, car and truck sales are expected to have risen in September as more Japanese vehicles fill showrooms after months of earthquake-related shortages, the Associated Press reports, adding that “analysts say the jump in sales could be short-lived because potential car buyers remain worried about the economy.”

Ford recalls 1 million trucks for faulty gas tanks

Ford is recalling over a million F-series and Lincoln Blackwood trucks because straps that hold up the gas tank could rust and break.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Ford Motor Co. is recalling 1.1 million full-size pickups in the U.S. because straps securing the gas tank to the vehicle could rust, allowing the tank to come loose and drag on the ground.
The recalled trucks include model year 1997 through 2003 F-150 trucks, some model year 1997 through 1999 F-250′s, and some 2002 to 2003 Lincoln Blackwood trucks — a luxury version of the F-150.
The trucks being recalled are in states with cold climates where road salts are commonly used. The salts can hasten corrosion of fuel tank straps that hold up the gasoline tank.
Ford (F, Fortune 500) is aware of three fires and one injury that have resulted from the problem, Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said.
Ford dealers will replace the gas tank straps on recalled trucks free of charge, installing straps made from a more rust-resistant material.
The Ford F-series truck has been the best-selling U.S. passenger vehicle for nearly 30 years. …CNN

Ford reverses itself, recalls 1.2 million F-150 trucks
Posted on April 15th, 2011 by admin
span class=”captionname”>In February, Ford called a large recall over unwanted airbag depoyments overkill. Now, the automaker has changed its mind.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — Ford Motor Co. is recalling almost 1.2 million full-sized pickups for a problem in which airbags can go off when not needed, expanding a much smaller recall it had instituted months earlier.
Ford recalled 144,000 trucks over the problem in February but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said at the time it was continuing to investigate the issue and might demand that the automaker issue a much larger recall, which Ford is now doing.
In a statement, Ford said it is issuing the larger recall “to reassure our customers of our safety commitment.”
The recall applies to 1.19 million trucks, mostly Ford F-150s built between 2003 and 2006 but also some 2006 model year Lincoln Mark LTs.
The problem is caused by an improperly placed wire in the steering wheel, where the airbag is housed. Insulating material on the wire can rub off, causing a short circuit that can lead to warning lights and inadvertent deployment.
Ford had claimed the problem did not re …CNN
